What’s not to love about peanuts right? They taste good just as they are – raw, roasted or boiled. And spicy peanut happens to be quite popular among the many varieties of peanuts.  In my last post I shared the recipe of Dabeli a popular street food of Gujarat. The recipe called for spicy peanuts. And you guys wanted the recipe for these. So here I am sharing the recipe of spicy peanuts.

It is amazing what spices can to do to liven up the already popular peanut. But the key to make good spicy peanuts is simplicity. Add less ingredients, just the necessary ones and you will see what I am talking about. These Spicy Peanuts strike the perfect balance of sweet and heat. They’re great for snacking or for adding a special touch to chaats or puffed rice recipes. I generally use these spicy peanuts for Dabeli – The soft bun, the fragrant potato filling, the juicy pomegranate, the crunchy peanuts, the spices and chutneys…it is bliss in every bite.You can check out the recipe here ↓

Dabeli / Kutchi Dabeli Recipe

The spicy peanuts are super easy to make. The only time consuming part is removing the peanut skins and halving them. Once this is done the peanuts will be ready in a jiffy!

 

I have to warn you that these peanuts are so addicting… Once you start eating them you just can’t stop 😉

Spicy peanuts for Dabeli

lip smacking spicy peanuts -a perfect blend of sweet , spicy, tangy and salty flavors

Ingredients
  • 1 cup raw peanuts
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 ½ - 2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 2 tablespoon powdered sugar* (Blend 1 cup sugar with a teaspoon of lemon salt)
  • Salt to taste
Directions
  • Step 1 Roast peanuts in a heavy bottomed pan on medium flame. When the peanuts begin to sputter, turn the flame to medium-high and stir fry continuously for a few mins until most of them crack open. Take care to not let them burn or smoke.
  • Step 2 Let the peanuts cool down a bit on a large plate. When the peanuts are still warm to the touch, rub them between your palms to get the skin off and also to halve them. Discard the skin. Make sure all the peanuts are halved. Remove the peanut tips as well.
  • Step 3 Heat oil in a skillet or wok on medium. Reduce heat to low and add garam masala, red chilli powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and salt taking care not to let the spices burn. Now add roasted and cleaned peanut halves and stir well for a few minutes to combine.
  • Step 4 Turn off the heat, add powdered sugar and give it a good stir to coat all the spices evenly.
  • Step 5 Let it cool on a plate. Store in a dry air tight container when cooled completely. Enjoy!!

Notes :

*the peanuts may taste bland and soft when hot. Allow them to cool completely and they will turn crunchy and you can taste the flavors.
