Hello Foodies,
Its been a while since I posted a new recipe. Blogging had taken a back seat due to a couple of reasons. But I am back now with this sugar free, moist and fluffy bread recipe.This sweet and hearty Date and Walnut Bread is simple, easy to make, and addictively delicious.

This whole wheat flour bread is naturally sweetened with dates and has no refined sugar. The iron rich dates when baked into a moist, delectable bread imparts a mild sweetness and tastes unbelievably good! And the walnuts add a yummy crunch to the loaf, without overpowering the flavor of the dates.

This sugar free bread is equally good for breakfast, dessert, and tea time. Serve a warm slice of this bread smeared with butter or nutella and a cup of hot tea and Enjoy!

a moist and fluffy, sugar free , guilt free bread made with whole wheat flour

Servings: 1 loaf

  • 1 and 3/4 cups wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla esssence
  • 1/2 cup roughly chopped walnuts
  • 1 1/2 cup deseeded and chopped dates
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoon lukewarm milk
  1. Add 1 cup of dates to a bowl and add the lukewarm milk to it. Let the dates soak in the milk for 15 - 20 minutes.

  2. Transfer the soaked dates (along with milk they were soaked in) to a blender and blend into a smooth paste.

  3. Preheat the oven to 170 deg C. Grease and line a loaf tin with parchment paper and set aside.

  4. Transfer the date paste to a large bowl. Add the yogurt, melted butter, eggs and vanilla essence to the bowl. Whisk until everything is just combined.
  5. Sift the wheat flour, salt, baking soda and cinnamon powder into the bowl. Use a spatula and fold gently until the flour is well incorporated.
  6. Add the walnuts and remaining 1/2 cup chopped dates to the batter and fold gently.

  7. Transfer the batter to the lined loaf tin and bake in a preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes.(A skewer inserted into the centre of the cake should come out clean)

  8. Allow the cake to cool for a minimum of half an hour before slicing it.Serve it warm ! Enjoy!



*Replace walnuts with almonds , pecans or any nut of your choice.

*The bread is mildly sweet. Add 1/4 cup brown sugar if you like it to be more sweeter.
